Biography

Harry Brewis (born September 19, 1992), known online as Hbomberguy, is a British YouTuber from Halifax, England, who has become one of the most respected voices in long-form video essay making and investigative media criticism. He studied English literature with creative writing at Aberystwyth University and worked as an IT engineer and as an animator for The School of Life's YouTube channel before transitioning to full-time content creation. His videos characteristically combine deep research—he consults with experts and fact-checkers for each project—with a cinematic structure that blends direct address, archival footage, comedic sketches, and documentary techniques.

Brewis is best known for two categories of work: systematic debunking of bad-faith arguments and investigation of fraud within online media. His "Measured Response" series has addressed climate denial, vaccine misinformation, and various political and cultural claims with a combination of humor and rigorous analysis. His "Climate Denial: A Measured Response" was nominated for Sight & Sound's list of the best video essays of the year. In 2019, he raised over $347,000 for the British transgender charity Mermaids through a 57-hour live-stream of Donkey Kong 64, an event that attracted a remarkable roster of guests including Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Chelsea Manning, Mara Wilson, and numerous other public figures.

His most ambitious project to date is "Plagiarism and You(Tube)," a four-hour documentary published in December 2023 that presented detailed evidence of plagiarism against multiple prominent YouTube creators. The video's second half focused extensively on creator James Somerton, whom Brewis accused of systematic plagiarism from queer writers and content creators. The video had immediate industry-wide impact, prompting several of the named creators to issue public apologies or delete their channels. Brewis represents a school of science and media communication that prizes meticulous sourcing, willingness to name names, and production quality as inseparable from analytical credibility.
